[Solved] Video decoding regression on VLC for win 3.0.2

[Solved] Video decoding regression on VLC for win 3.0.2

Post by kongo47 » 17 Jun 2018 11:31

after updating to VLC 3.0.3 I noticed that some videos that used to play just fine now freezes completely after less than a second of playback.
I narrowed the regression to this:

3.0.1 win64 : OK
3.0.2 win64 : KO
3.0.2 win32 : KO

Characteristics of a problematic video :
Codec : H264 — MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
Video Resolution : 1920×1080
Framerate : 60
Decoded Format : Planar 4:2:0 YUV

During playback on 3.0.2, the stats window show that most of the frames are still counted as displayed (but video is completely frozen).

I then compared the message outputs (level: warning). Here is the first diff block below.

dxva2 warning: Unsupported profile -1 for H.264 variable-length decoder, no film grain technology
dxva2 warning: Unsupported profile -1 for H.264 variable-length decoder, no film grain technology, Flash
dxva2 error: FindVideoServiceConversion failed
direct3d9 error: SetThumbNailClip failed: 0x800706f4
direct3d11 error: Could not Create the D3D11 device. (hr=0x80004001)
direct3d11 error: Direct3D11 could not be opened
direct3d11 error: SetThumbNailClip failed: 0x800706f4
direct3d9 warning: trying surface pixel format: YV12
avcodec warning: plane 0 not aligned: disabling direct rendering

avcodec info: Using DXVA2 (AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series, vendor ATI(4098), device 26424, revision 0) for hardware decoding

sometimes I have this in 3.0.2 :
avcodec error: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?)

The two versions are running on the same environment.
The issue reproduces every time.

Topic: VLC player support

The idea is to add a new VLC module that acts like a «video filter» and runs a Vapoursynth script (just like it does with mpv)

Note that VLC has a few dumb limitations:

1. The «common» video filters are not allowed to change the frame rate! The only TWO filter that can do this are listed by names in the VLC sources — «deinterlace» and «postproc».
So to make our filter work we should replace one of them.

2. The filter can’t return more than 3 frames on each source frame, which means that FRC rate = x3 is the maximum.

3. The filter can’t increase frame size on-the-fly, so all SVP’s options that increase source frame size won’t work (at least for now).

How to make it work?

1. Install VLC 64-bit ver. 3.0.x

2. Windows only: install the «VLC support» package

3. (optional) Windows only: add/modify PATH and PYTHONPATH environment variables — they must point to SVP 4\mpv64 folder

4. Invoke Utilities -> SVP in VLC command from SVP’s menu, VLC will open automatically.

5. Next time just run VLC via SVP’s main menu -> Run VLC with SVP.

If you get error: VLC: unsupported color format, switch to software video decoder

VLC menu Tools -> Preferences -> Input/Codecs tab -> Hardware-accelerated decoding: Disable

Hardware Acceleration Issues on 3.0.10/11?

Hardware Acceleration Issues on 3.0.10/11?

Post by Peti0127 » 05 Jul 2020 17:13

I’m getting this error when watching .m3u IPTV:

direct3d11 error: SetThumbNailClip failed: 0x800706f4
If I understand it correctly, it’s a GPU error.

About one month ago, this wasn’t an issue, playback was working fine, but now It either stops the stream or proceeds to the next one.

The stream randomly stops and this is the only line I get.
Tried with 3.0.10 and 3.0.11
I’m using a GTX1080 with the latest driver (451.48)

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback , and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it’s too long.

Also upload your original problematic file to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to WeTransfer.com and then post the link to the file here.
https://www.zippyshare.com
https://wetransfer.com

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph . 35#p193335
100 MB max should be enough.

mpeg4audio info: AAC channels: 2 samplerate: 48000
avcodec info: Using D3D11VA (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, vendor 10de(NVIDIA), device 1b80, revision a1) for hardware decoding
direct3d11 error: SetThumbNailClip failed: 0x800706f4

This is everything, the error even comes if I manually stop the stream.
The file is my .m3u IPTV, I’m not allowed to share it with anyone, but the error happens even with videos.

Youtube videos on VLC

Youtube videos on VLC

Post by vincerooney » 01 Apr 2021 03:00

Hope i’m asking this in the correct place. I have googled and followed a lot of the advice but it hasnt worked hence my post.

I’ve been watching youtube videos via VLC perfectly for months and now its suddenly stopped. It briefly loads up for about half a second and then just stops. No idea why its just suddenly stopped working! Any ideas?!

Some of the suggestions are about changing the file in «playlist» and downloading a new youtube.luac file etc. Nothing has worked! Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem since today. No single video does work anymore.

As example, one video that did work before (with exactly this link out from a playlist):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAoEttt . &index=365

And without the playlist association, but even that doesn’t work:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAoEtttA1vU

If you need more examples, then just tell me.

I see what the problem is. Before connecting to the youtube site in a browser it opens a consent page which you have respond to. This same consent data is replicated in vlc which blocks the connection to the video.

The videolan site to file bugs to has changed and has moved to code.videolan.org. It’s now become necessary to register there which requires 2FA. After creating username and p/w users are presented with a QR code. The problem here is that my phone doesn’t support that so I can’t complete the registration. Why make things easy when you can make them difficult!

I’ll msg one of the devs to request that they do it (hopefully), but it may take a while longer.

Just need to find a way to add the same method to bypass the consent page!

I tested it a couple of times on other videos and the following seems to work in most cases.

So here’s a video on youtube which will play in a browser, but not on vlc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKSdDdINJek

To get around that problem click Tools —> Messages and at the bottom change Verbosity to 2 (default is 0). Leave it on screen and hit Ctrl + N to open the Network menu and paste the URL to the video and hit Enter. Click Tools —> Messages again (or just hit Ctrl + M) and then scroll upwards a bit until you see main debug with the URL shown in the Code field.

Copy the whole link and paste it into the Network menu and click Play (or just hit Enter).

Here’s a pix of the same vlc log I created with the URL to be copied highlighted.

Yes, but you only have to do that once. With the exception of the URL to the video the rest of the string remains the same. You can see that by placing the two code fields below each other like this:

thanks for this. I changed the verbosity to 2, closed it, opened network menu and pasted the url and clicked enter. nothing happened as expected so went back to tools—-messages as you stated and just got
