Unhandled exception page fault on write access to in 32 bit code

Wine в Debian

liyi@kupnu42605:/media/ntfs1/Games/NFSU/NFSU m2011 modification$ wine speed.exe

err:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo couldn’t initialize OpenGL, expect problems

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x0040f9e7).

Burnout Paradise City, Cossack Back to War, Age of Mythology.

Unhandled exception page fault on write access to in 32 bit code

Post by dk » Wed May 18, 2011 3:40 pm

I don’t have a clue what is causing the crash. With the above information is there anything I can do to determine if this is an issue with Wine? I just did a fresh install of the new Ubuntu (64 bit) release last week so I have a relatively clean environment. It might be distro related but honestly I can’t tell either way at this point.

Can anyone tell me what’s happening at 0x0044a179?

Does this program run without this error in Wine-1.3.19?

Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit
Demon Stone (GOG version — released May 2011)
Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS, Driver 270.41.06
Log files available @ Bug 27091

I received this error in 1.3.19 as well.

The game was just re-released digitally this month on GOG and is DRM-free. The *retail* version worked with a no-cd crack in 1.3.0. (I was able to run the retail version in Ubuntu 10.10 although I don’t remember the Wine version)

One other user was kind enough to enter test results for Fedora 14. He was able to play the GOG version without this crash.

I installed 1.3.20 from PPA. In addition I’ve compiled Wine 1.3.20 and ran the game from the 1.3.20 build directory. Both caused the same crash.

It might be distro related but I didn’t see anything Wine related in the reported bugs for Ubuntu 11.04..

The only concrete information that I have is that page fault. I need some help on determining what’s causing it. What’s my next step?

I run some games through wine without a problem, but some of the times the game runs without any fonts. but a lot of the games crash, all with the same page fault on write access in 32-bit code.

Skyrim for example run with minor audio issues. But some of the more basic casual games either don’t start or crash when the game tries to load.

Unity games have been more successful in not crashing by like 99.9%

0x7c002fd4 on googles shows just a list of codes for a font.

I don’t understand how a font problem would cause an entire game to just not even attempt to run.

Unhandled exception page fault on write access to in 32 bit code

Im getting this error in all applications I’ve run in wine (Currently 1.6.1 though I have tried 1.7.14 as well) some with greater frequency than others. For example I might play arcanium for hours before the crash occurs, where as Oblivion typically won’t make it past the loading screen or sometimes opening moments of the game.

The computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 545 with an a10-5750 (hd8650g) I use the catalyst driver (13.20) from the xorg-edgers ppa. Current desktop is xubuntu 13.10 64 bit using lxde. I have also tried ubuntu 13.10 32 bit.

My guess is that theres something to do with the hardware not playing nice because 1.7.9 worked on a similar machine with an almost identical software setup, an asus k55n with amd a8-4500 (hd7640g) ubuntu 13.10 and xorg-edgers catalyst driver without any issues at all.

A typical error report looks something like this.

First of all I would try running the game executable with the correct working directory, as in.

(FYI you only need to specify the WINEARCH variable once — when «building» a Wineprefix).
That’s not a problem with Wine it’s just the way Windows does things (including the current directory in the users path for executable code and .dll’s).

Try that and then post back some updated results.
Thanks
Bob

I just ran the exact same software setup on the Asus k55n, ubuntu 13.10, xorg-edgers catalyst 13.2, wine ppa 1.7.15 on both machines. The Asus ran it without trouble. Very weird.

It generates a lot of output in the terminal. If it helps, this was as best as I was able to get to right after launching the game.

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access

I have recently installed ubuntu on a different computer. I have had multiply instances of wine running fine on multiple desktops. I have had some issues before and I ended up reinstalling ubuntu and it worked fine. I do not want to reinstall ubuntu again if it is avoidable. I have not been able to get any windows programs to run successfully with this installation of wine.
